Cicada Four
Watercolor and Ink
I have a habit of picking up dead and sometimes live cicadas I find while walking my dog, drawn to them for their size and alien like form. This is one of the studies of four. Three of them are dead, while the one in the top upper left is a shell from a live one I had discovered. He or she was struggling along on the sidewalk on a cooler summer morning so I took him or her home to warm up and continue the emergence process. Within an hour, a fully formed cicada was revealed. I then let him or her go but kept the shell.
