Milwaukee River Walk
Watercolor and Ink, 2014
I spent a fall afternoon walking along the Milwaukee river, looking for what I might see. This piece records what I discovered and experienced, including an ant and cricket upon a rock, a heron and a kingfisher who stopped by just enough for me to sketch, a millipede crawling out from under a leaf only to disappear under another, tiny skimmers upon thewater surface, flies landing briefly, a feather caught upon shore, the water's flow among rocks, a bee drowning (though Iremoved him and he recovered), and a giant water bug and a odonate nymph hiding under rocks (My curiosity got the best ofme. I simply had to lift up stones to see what was there. I was rewarded with quick glimpses of these creatures. The giant waterbug was especially magnificent.).
