Lichens and a Crane Fly
Acrylic on Canvas
30" x 40"
2019
While visiting Iceland in 2009, I was amazed to find some rocks with blue lichen so I snapped a photo. I had started the painting after the trip but it was not until 2019, that I finally completed the image, as the timing was right and I knew how I wanted to approach the work. Since insects encompass a greater focus of my art now, I remembered the lone insect I had photographed, which was a crane fly, that landed on one of my student's jackets. It can be a bit of a search and find to locate him.
